KAPE Fiberglass Racing Rudders
Our Fiberglass Racing Rudders are the most streamlined rudder solutions that allow to achieve minimum drag yet a satisfying steering – as much as it is needed for a flatwater kayak. Because their main function is to provide directional stability and to do just minor corrections these balanced rudders are narrow, thin, triangular and have a low surface. Distadvantages are their introlerance of crashes and their strange attraction to seaweed.
For marathon paddlers and/or for rocky riverbed we advise the Stainless Steel Marathon Rudder link.
BUILD-UP & BUILD-IN
A stainless shaft of 6 mm diameter is connected to the blade. The head of the shaft is always plain grinded from the rear (never threaded - we don't use rudder wheels here!). The shaft is fixed into a Stainless Rudder crossbar (R192) at its middle by a hold-down bolt. Steering cords are attached to the ends of the crossbar. This solution results a sensitive understern steering system.
Not surprisingly Racing rudders of K1, K2 and K4 models (which are the standard choice there) have different sizes.
Available in three sizes: for K1, K2 & K4 models
ORDERING AS A SPARE PART
There are two ways of ordering a rudder as a spart part, but which is sure:
- always tell the model of the boat in which it will be equipped
- also measure the diameter of the shaft - just for sure
- and you can choose the blade colour as well
Now the only question is the length of the shaft. Important to note that shaft lengths may be different even within the same model. So if you have the right tool and experience we advice you to cut the shaft to size by yourself – or by a local expert.
Otherwise you have to
- accurately measure the complete length of the shaft – from the top of the shaft to the top of the blade.
Then we’ll know everything
